OnePlus 10 Pro: 6 Things To Change Immediately On Your New OnePlus

Suppose you have just bought a OnePlus smartphone. In that case, We will explain six settings to adjust immediately to get you started on your new OnePlus 10 Pro, OnePlus 9 Pro, OnePlus 8T, or OnePlus Nord 2. Everyone knows how to do it when entering your PIN code, your Google account, and choosing your system language. But after the basic configuration of your Android smartphone, there are still some handy features and settings that you may not know. This is where this article comes in since We will list you some pretty essential tips in Oxygen OS to optimize your experience on your new OnePlus.

Copy Your Data With Phone Clone

This is an essential step in this guide, and you can do it right from the initial setup of your OnePlus smartphone. Similar to Samsung’s Smart Switch, the Clone Phone’s purpose is to transfer data from your old phone to your new OnePlus. Do not confuse this application with that of Huawei, called Phone Clone.

  1. Install  Clone Phone on your old Android smartphone or iPhone
  2. On your new OnePlus, choose This is the latest device
  3. Opt to migrate data from Oppo, Realme or OnePlus, Other Android or iPhone
  4. On your old smartphone, select This is the old device
  5. With your old smartphone, scan the QR code displayed on your new OnePlus
  6. On your old smartphone, tap Start Migration

All you have to do is manually choose the files, apps, and contacts you want to transfer to your new OnePlus smartphone. The migration via Clone Phone is done via Wifi. Make sure that the two smartphones remain well connected to the same network.  Note that on Android, Clone Phone exists in two copies. It’s just the versions of Oppo and OnePlus. Both are interoperable. On iOS, the Clone Phone app cannot be found online. You need to scan a QR code with your iPhone on your new OnePlus to be redirected to the corresponding App Store page.

Configure The Screen Of Your OnePlus

Personally, this is the first thing. We do when We get a new smartphone to test: configure the screen. We will focus on four key elements: refresh rate, definition, dark mode, and colorimetry.

Choose The Color Mode Of The Cinematic Screen

The screens of OnePlus smartphones are renowned for being very well calibrated and offer several color modes to customize the colorimetry. For a more natural rendering than the Vivid mode, We often prefer to opt for the Natural color mode. But OnePlus also offers a Pro Cinematic Mode to cover the DCI-P3 color space as widely as possible to have a broader palette while having a more faithful reproduction.

  1. Go to Settings, then Display and Brightness
  2. Go to Screen Color Mode
  3. Tap Pro Mode and choose Cinematically

The Set Screen Refresh Rate To 120Hz

The refresh rate of current OnePlus smartphones generally goes up to 90 or even 120 Hz. On the OnePlus 10 Pro, the LTPO 2.0 screen allows this rate to be varied from 1 to 120 Hz compared to 10 to 120 Hz typically. We still haven’t been able to see a scenario where the framerate goes to 1 Hz. But varying the refresh rate makes it possible in any case to preserve the autonomy of your OnePlus smartphone.

  1. Go to Settings, then Display and Brightness
  2. Go to Screen refresh rate  (yes, translations are approximate)
  3. Choose the High level

Set Screen Resolution To Full HD+

OnePlus flagships offer AMOLED screens with a definition of up to QHD+. We prefer to stay in Full HD+, which is more than enough for the 1080p video content that We consume and, above all, more energy-efficient.

  1. Go to Settings, then Display and Brightness
  2. Go to Screen resolution
  3. Choose FHD+

Adjust The Dark Mode Level

Like ColorOS, OxygenOS offers three intensity levels for its dark mode: Enhanced, Medium, and Soft. We leave the Enhanced level as default, but We also activate the adaptive contrast option. This allows you to adjust the intensity of the dark mode according to the lighting conditions of your environment, which prevents you from having to switch the brightness to the maximum as soon as you are in the sun.

  1. Go to Settings, then Display and Brightness
  2. Go to Dark mode settings
  3. Choose Enhanced mode
  4. Enable the  Adaptive Contrast option

Activate And Customize Your OnePlus Shelf Pane

OnePlus Shelf is an all-in-one menu with shortcuts to your favorite apps, weather widgets, notes, calendar, step counter, etc. In short, it’s a shutter to quickly access a range of apps and functions that you use frequently.  We find the OnePlus Shelf menu very useful and recommend customizing it. You can add new widgets and display your Spotify player and other data.

  1. From your home screen, swipe down from the top right corner to open the OnePlus Shelf
  2. At the top right, tap the cog icon to access Settings

Assign The “Swipe Down” Gesture From Home Screen

OnePlus smartphones are not compact smartphones, but the manufacturer is working to make its Oxygen OS interface more usable with one hand. Instead of stretching your thumb to swipe up and down the screen to bring up the notifications drawer, for example, you can swipe up from the bottom of the screen—no need to cramp your fingers. This setting is generally made by default on your OnePlus, but if it is not the case, it may be helpful to know where this option is hiding.

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Go to Home screen and lock screen
  3. Tap Swipe down from the home screen
  4. Choose Notification Drawer

Create A Flashlight Shortcut From The Lock Screen

OnePlus offers several gestures that you can perform on the screen of your OnePlus smartphone. When your phone is locked, you can draw a series of symbols to launch specific apps or actions. It’s pretty gimmicky, but one of these shortcuts is particularly useful to me. So, by drawing a V on the off-screen of your OnePlus, you can turn on/off the flashlight.

Usually, if We need my smartphone flashlight, we lose something under my bed or my seat at the movie theater. Another scenario is when the light automatically turns off in the stairwell of my building. In short, these aren’t situations where We feel like having to unlock our smartphone, swipe down, and look for the flashlight icon. As a result, drawing a simple V on my screen seems much more intuitive.

  1. Go to Settings, then Special Features
  2. Go to Gestures and motions
  3. Tap Gestures on the screen off
  4. Enable the option Draw a V to turn on/off the flashlight

Enable Optimized Charging

Autonomy has always been a significant issue for smartphone manufacturers and users. OnePlus is generally known to be pretty strong in this area. With the progress of Android, manufacturers like OnePlus offer optimization modes for your battery, but also for charging.

Thus, OnePlus offers an optimized night charging function. Your smartphone learns how you use your smartphone daily and adapts the charging speed at night when you leave it plugged in. The idea is to charge the phone more slowly when you’re least likely to use it to preserve the battery. We activate this option from the first use to give the smartphone time to learn my services.

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Go to Battery
  3. Go to Advanced Settings
  4. Activate the Optimized overnight charging option

So much for this getting started guide to configure your new OnePlus smartphone properly. We hope these tips have been helpful to you. If you have a OnePlus, let me know what settings you do first on your new phone.
